Camille 3000 presents Piero Piccioni “Camille 2000” - Remastered from the original tapes

In between romantic jazz and psychedelic funk and a precursor to what would then have become hip hop and trip-hop, Camille 2000 has inspired some of the most dynamic and influential producers of the contemporary music scene.

Composed and recorded between 1969 and 1970, this soundtrack is one of the masterpieces of Piero Piccioni, one of the greatest film music minds ever, ad it gives rhythm, atmosphere and soul to the 1969’s movie of the same name by Radley Metzger, based on the 1852 play La Dame aux Camélias by Alexandre Dumas.

Now restored for the first time from the original tape master, the long-awaited and complete digital release of this pioneering soundtrack masterpiece is now available in the catalogue of Camille 3000. Thanks to the work of the label staff, who has gone the extra mile by digging directly into the vaults of this timeless composer's master tape collection and have transferred and remastered them in HD, this incredible record is back to the music market and is ready to influence more and more musicians and composers.

A pianist, organist, conductor, composer, Piero Piccioni had an incredible career, being the author of more than 300 film soundtrack. After doing his radio debut at 17 years old in 1938, he came into contact with the movie world in Rome during the fifties, becoming the selected composer for directors such as Francesco Rosi, Mario Monicelli, Luchino Visconti, Antonio Pietrangeli, Vittorio De Sica, Roberto Rossellini, Dino Risi, and more.

As Rocco Pandiani (Easy Tempo/Mono Jazz) says, “the magic in this recording is due to the fact that the music spans from nostalgic to futuristic science fiction all at once…just like that! A stunning floating voyage which then vanishes into string atmospheres through tight and modulated rhythm tapestries all supported with beautiful brass monoliths”.

Tracks such as Pearls, Camille 2000 (Alternate Take), Charms, and Slow Flute Beat are but a few of those which live on today and project into the future the retro-future philosophy that is embodied in Camille 3000 label.
